Innovation@King’s, within King’s College London, is seeking a dynamic and experienced professional to transform our approach to supporting engagement and communications around our portfolio of innovation opportunity with both external company & investor partners and staff internal to King’s College London.
The Specialist Marketing and Engagement Manager will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies which both market technology-licensing/ investment and collaboration opportunity relating to outputs from KCL’s research base to external companies and investors, and preparing and maintaining “open for business comms” (including web pages, press releases and social media content), and promoting internally to King’s staff the various innovation support resources / teams available to assist in achieving impact from our research outputs.
This is a new role, working with existing teams within Innovation@King’s, academic staff within Faculty and central university communications teams to maximise:
awareness and dissemination of information regarding innovations available for partnering, licensing and investment, communications relating to available commercialisation opportunities, translation funding opportunity, innovation support resources and support teams at King’s, awareness of strategic innovation projects and opportunities of relevance to both the internal King’s audience and external partners, promotion of King’s successes in the innovation field. The ideal candidate will bring substantial experience of engagement and communication with both internal stakeholders and external partners around innovation, commercialisation, collaborative partnering and entrepreneurism. They will combine strong strategic communication and stakeholder engagement experience, with an understanding of innovation, business and commercialisation, and an ability to engage and inspire both senior stakeholders in funders, industry and the university as well as academic researchers and the public in general.

Key responsibilities
- Marketing specific partnering / collaboration opportunities to external partners– by working with managers within the teams comprising Innovation@King’s.
- Working with researchers and Innovation@King’s managers to produce materials about IP and technology opportunities, and market them, via comms channels or in person at meetings, events and conferences.
- Maintaining for Innovation@King’s a variety of ‘Open for Business’ comms – with responsibility for data acquisition for key massage creation and dissemination via web news stories and blogs, press releases, and social media about Innovation@King’s work with industry and investors, the Innovation@King’s team’s work, and industry and investor relevant research or IP news, management of the web pages relating to Innovation@King’s and the more general and broad King’s innovation activities.
- Promoting the broader innovation-support programmes, workshops, funding schemes available to the King’s academic community ((e.g faculty groups, early career researchers, academics) including creating variants that will have much stronger appeal to this varied internal audience,
- Promoting innovation-support resources (Potential design work for the Innovation@King’s Spinout Accelerator’s visual identity (in-house or liaising with external creatives) and helping the I@K teams build internal networks of people who can augment and enable access to academic groups who might become pipeline for Innovation@King’s.
- Producing material (eg case studies) to celebrate success in innovation, entrepreneurship and commercialisation arising from research activities at King’s.
- Leading one -off campaigns to promote information around ad hoc innovation support opportunities.
- Responsibility for regular check-ins/feedback regarding uptake of opportunities to adjust comms tactics in response.
Skills, knowledge, and experience
Essential criteria
Educated to degree level in a relevant field or equivalent experience Experienced across IT, design and marketing software (MS Office, social media, website CMS, email marketing, as well as Adobe Creative Suite) Excellent communications skills – ability to creatively translate technical information into compelling narrative Strong stakeholder management skills, and the ability to work with multiple stakeholders with competing interests Strong skills to engage others and form networks to deliver goals together Experience providing creative direction on campaigns and projects Experienced in developing and delivering on multiple events at one time Ability to develop a communications strategy and deliver against key targets Budget and resource management experience Experienced as an empowering manager and leader Have a creative, curious and collaborative approach to tasks Desirable criteria
Understanding of digital marketing Knowledge of innovation and commercialisation and relevant social and political influences Strong strategic thinking and ability to ensure tactical implementation Further Information
