About the role
We’re looking for a Senior Underwriter – Specialty Property , to join our growing team!
As a Senior in the Specialty Property team, as a subject matter expert in the Specialty underwriting space, you will play an important role in producing and underwriting new and renewal business to ensure that the Company maintains a profitable and sustainable book of business in accordance with Company underwriting and compliance guidelines while achieving growth objectives.
Worplaces: Toronto (700 University), Calgary, Montréal (2020 Robert-Bourassa) or Vancouver (999 Hastings St.W)
What you’ll do here:

Analyze requests for quotes, renewals and policy changes, and recommend innovative solutions

Develop business opportunities by fostering new broker relationships and maintaining strong internal and external business partner relationships

Participate in broker visits, conferences and marketing events

Communicate changes related to product pricing, underwriting guidelines and new products
-
Use negotiating skills to maintain healthy relationships within and outside the company

Provide underwriting training to new hires, lending expertise to mentor other underwriters

Conduct the Quarterly Review Process with team members, auditing files and providing feedback
-
Provide ongoing support in expanding the department, and make recommendations for process improvements

Complete special projects as assigned
What you bring to the table:
-
Minimum of 5 years of experience in Specialty insurance, experience in related Construction and Equipment Breakdown is an asset

Strong working knowledge of natural catastrophe models

Highly organized, with the ability to work towards goals while adapting to change in a fast paced environment

Strong communication skills, including the ability to persuade as well as challenge others

Ability to deal effectively and respectfully with individuals at all levels of the organization
-
Self-starter with the ability to work independently and in collaboration with national departmental teams
-
Effective analytical, negotiating and decision-making skills
-
Ability to work well under tight deadlines, including organizational and time management skills
-
High level of integrity, confidentiality and accountability
-
CIP designation, and FCIP and/or CRM designation is asset
