DUTIES
Reporting to the Executive Director, Office of Development the Senior Communications Advisor will be responsible for the overall planning, development, implementation and evaluation of strategic communications activities for the Office of Development. Working with the Development senior management team and with other university communications and marketing team members, the successful applicant will play a leadership role in communications to and about Memorial University donors and friends.
Duties and responsibilities include providing strategic communications advice to the executive director and leadership team; working with other members of the university communications team and divisional leadership to plan for specific projects; leading, managing and/or executing all aspects of assigned projects and files with a donor-centred approach; speechwriting and other writing for senior leaders; providing strategic and creative marketing and communications planning and support for fundraising programs and campaigns ; writing and producing internal and external publications; developing and producing materials including brochures, presentations, newsletters and annual reports; website content development and oversight; providing social media strategy and oversight working with the Marketing Coordinator; managing external consultants and contractors; supervision of a junior communications advisor; media relations; and replying to internal and external requests for information. Other additional duties as required. Occasional evening and weekend work be required.
The Senior Communications Advisor must be self-directed, able to work independently and as part of a team and also be able to effectively manage multiple and competing deadlines. Demonstrated sophistication and maturity of judgement in providing communications counsel to the management team is required.
Familiarity with Newfoundland and Labrador privacy legislation (i.e. Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act (ATIPPA)), as well as federal and international legislation that directly influences marketing and communications best practices such as Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) and the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) are considered assets.
SALARY $62,280 – $84,928 per annum (Management and Professional)
