Job Summary
In collaboration with school leadership and partners, and under the direction of the communications manager, the marketing specialist will be responsible for developing and implementing innovative marketing campaigns to support the UCSF School of Nursing’s education, research and clinical enterprise and to promote brand awareness.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Conduct research to understand target audiences and ensure effective marketing strategies
- Develop brand-consistent, engaging marketing collateral to promote the school’s academic programs, the UCSF Leadership Institute, school services, and its research and clinical enterprise
- Launch, monitor and adjust advertising campaigns to deliver results within a predetermined, approved budget (includes Google Ads, social media ads and ads with professional nursing organizations)
- Build email marketing campaigns targeted at prospects using email marketing platforms or CRM software
- Promote recruitment events and information sessions in collaboration with the outreach and recruitment director
- Use additional marketing tactics including videos, graphics and Facebook Live/social media events to achieve goals
- Monitor key performance indicators to measure effectiveness, provide regular reports and make recommendations on adjusting marketing campaigns to optimize success
- Ensure all content and strategies align with UC and UCSF policies
The marketing specialist will have a strong understanding of current and emerging marketing trends and technologies. The individual will investigate and recommend new approaches for effective marketing to their supervisor and leadership, and implement them if approved.
The successful candidate values collaboration and has a proven track record for producing results. They exercise sound judgment and excellent interpersonal communications skills. Attention to detail, a high level of factual accuracy and the ability to successfully juggle multiple projects with varying deadlines is a must. A sense of humor is a plus.
The school’s Office of Communications is a small, nimble and highly collaborative team that partners across units and departments, and works closely with leadership, faculty, staff and students to achieve goals. The marketing specialist will collaborate with school leadership, the Office of Student Affairs, the outreach and recruitment director, the UCSF Leadership Institute, the Office of Research and other offices/units on marketing efforts.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% – 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.
For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.
