The Governor’s Office of Economic Development and International Trade (“OEDIT”) was created to foster a positive business climate that encourages quality economic development through the support of local and regional economic development activities throughout the State of Colorado. A comprehensive slate of programs within OEDIT’s divisions work together to offer economic development services for all Colorado businesses – new and expanding, traditional and emerging, small and large – including retention programs to ensure continued competitiveness of Colorado’s economic base, and job training to keep Colorado’s workforce the best in the nation.
The Marketing Copywriter will report to the Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) and work closely with the Senior Communications Manager, Marketing Manager, and Marketing and Communications Assistant on the Marketing and Communications team (MarComm). The Marketing Copywriter will support the implementation of a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy for the Department. The Marketing Copywriter will help promote the Colorado brand business objectives, OEDIT programs and messages to target audiences and key constituents.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist the CMO and MarComm team to implement a multi-channel marketing strategy and a comprehensive communication strategy for the organization and Division Directors.
- Write compelling social media content, website content, blog posts, media relations content, newsletter content, and marketing collateral in collaboration with the MarComm team and OEDIT divisions.
- Create copy for content that aligns with the MarComm team’s priorities and timeline and ensure that all content is accurate and approved to use.
- Write press releases, blog posts and social media content in a timely manner following AP style guide and accessibility best practices.
- Manage the annual report process in collaboration with the legislative team and OEDIT divisions from project management to writing and editing to working with a designer.
- Develop and implement ideas and strategies to utilize content for multiple channels.
- Manage content development for choosecolorado.com, oedit.colorado.gov and other websites, and edit existing content on site ensuring each page is engaging and reflects the brand guidelines in collaboration with the Marketing Manager and OEDIT divisions.
- Collaborate with the Marketing Manager and Marketing and Communications Assistant to write, review, and edit social content to be approved for scheduling.
- Collaborate with the Senior Communications Manager to write compelling blog posts that demonstrate the impacts of OEDIT programs and divisions on Colorado businesses and communities.
- Demonstrate a clear understanding of voice differences and character count between channels, while staying on brand and highlighting key takeaways for external audiences. Knowledge in emoji use for social media.
- Understand the importance of contentious and thoughtful word usage and voice.
- Provide creative solutions to content that requires edits when collaborating with the MarComm team and OEDIT divisions.
- Collaborate with the Senior Communications Manager and MarComm team to craft crisis messaging, proof press releases, and edit media advisories.
- Edit and proofread newsletters for grammar, punctuation, spelling, and style.
- Help with monthly and annual reporting on Governor’s Office goals and marketing and media metrics.
- Author department updates, including weekly cabinet updates, annual plan, and more.
- Help ensure that all program, marketing, and communications activities are of the highest quality, consistent, and in accordance with strategic messaging priorities and branding standards.
- Assist in the management of contact lists for newsletters and of upcoming press releases, blogs, calendars, media contacts, and newsletter content.
- Work with the MarComm team to collaborate with program managers and divisions to gather and edit messaging for social media, newsletters, and websites.
- Stay current on marketing best practices and industry trends, which may require attending educational conferences or training.
- Assist with administrative duties and other MarComm team responsibilities, as needed.

Required:
The Marketing Copywriter must be a creative and strategic thinker and with excellent oral and written communication skills as well as creative writing ability. This role will have demonstrated problem-solving abilities and excellent time management skills, including the capacity to work autonomously, elevate appropriately, meet timelines and prioritize multiple projects. The ability to work effectively and collaborate with colleagues and partners is critical in this role as are skills in relationship building and networking with a diverse population of organizations, associations and interest groups.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A four-year college degree or any combination of education, certification, coursework and/or technical training necessary to meet position requirements, plus experience in a writing, communications or marketing role. Please include writing samples of a press release, blog post or feature story, and social media post with application.
Conditions of Employment

Salary Range: $50,000 – $58,000 Annually
This position is considered non-classified, which means the position is not part of the Colorado State Personnel System. Therefore, the individual appointed to this position is considered at-will, and is not covered by the State Personnel Rules or the State Classification System. However, this position does come with the same benefits (retirement, insurance, etc.) as every other State employee, and with the same opportunities, pride and passion that comes with working for the great State of Colorado. Even though employment is at-will, non-classified positions have protections against discrimination and retaliation in state and federal employment laws. “At-will” employment means that either the employee or the State may terminate the employment relationship at any time for any reason or no reason, with or without notice or cause, as long as no federal or state law is violated.
