Job Summary:
The position of Marketing & Communications Director reports directly to the General Manager of Huntington Place and will provide a broad range of communications and marketing support to the organization. Responsible for the development and implementation of the organization’s marketing communications and public relations activities, both external and internal. Oversees the development and implementation of support materials and services in the area of marketing, and communications. Work with the public relations company to coordinate and direct public messaging. Directs the efforts of the marketing, communications, and public relations service providers and coordinates at the strategic and tactical levels with the organization’s functional departments. The Marketing & Communications Director must be a self-starter and have a proven ability in working with a diversity of individuals and groups.
Key Job Elements:
- Participate in executive strategic planning and forecast annual budget based on marketing goals and objectives, DRCFA board meetings, Customer Advisory Board meetings, and Leadership meetings.
- Create, implement, and measure the success of a comprehensive marketing, communications, and public relations program that will enhance the organization’s image and position within the marketplace and the general public and facilitate internal and external communications.
- Develop the organization’s brand image and ensure communication of image and position to all constituencies, both internal and external.
- Develop and coordinate media relations, press releases, and news articles in the event industry and local Detroit news outlets.
- Authorize on-site media presence that is not part of an event; develop interview opportunities for the General Manager and create talking points that include current messaging for each interview.
- Direct webmaster and website content strategy for DRCFA and company websites, creating all content creation and working with the website developer to maximize performance and design.
- Project manage design, prepare, produce, and distribute organizational publications, including the Annual Report, annual Marketing Plan, and company blog.
- Work with the creative company to develop and implement ongoing advertising and email campaigns.
- Develop and distribute marketing materials to support sales activities, including an electronic sales kit on the website, videos, brochures, sales kits, and customer incentives.
- Develop and optimize organizational digital assets to develop and support current revenue streams with web-based content and lead generation, optimizing content for all marketing collateral in all digital formats.
- Co-chair the Huntington Place Green Committee, participate in the green committee, allocating the marketing budget for the development and dissemination of all sustainability marketing materials and communications.
- Manage sustainability marketing materials and communications.
- Track and report industry-standard marketing ROI measures, ensuring improvement in all categories.
- Direct the social media program and strategy to complement the overall marketing plan.
Qualifications:
- Education – Bachelor’s degree in business administration with an emphasis on marketing preferred, but a degree in journalism, advertising, or public relations will be considered.
- Experience – Seven (7) to ten (10) years of progressively increasing responsibility in the development and execution of marketing communications programs.
- Skills – Knowledgeable about terminology used in arena, entertainment, and convention settings. Computer literacy in Microsoft Suite, database management, and page layout. Excellent people skills and an enthusiastic attitude. Creativity and natural curiosity.
- Communication – Excellent oral, written, and listening skills. Strong creative, strategic, and analytical skills, including the ability to lead, facilitate, plan, and organize.
- Change Management – Accepts and adapts to change; understands that change is a constant and necessary path for involvement and growth. Questions the status quo by asking “Why?”
