Position Overview:
This role is for someone who is passionate about our Downtown and wants to be part of a small team that strives to support, promote, activate, and make vibrant our central business district. Your extensive experience and skills in brand development and delivering authentic moments that create memorable experiences and connections will make you a good fit for our team. As the brand ambassador, you will work with our many partners and collaborators to effectively tell the Downtown Kitchener story.
Responsibilities:
  • Develops and implements an overall brand strategy for Downtown Kitchener.
  • Develops marketing strategies and implements marketing activities to grow the knowledge of downtown attributes and to impact the economic and social vitality of the downtown. Marketing activities include such tasks as coordinating the development of magazines, brochures, posters, etc.
  • Works directly with the Downtown Business Improvement Area on marketing activities, and jointly stewards the Downtown Kitchener brand.
  • Functions as a brand ambassador for Downtown Kitchener, and ensures that all messaging, social media, and events align with the values, themes, and long-term strategies.
  • Creates and implements social media strategy and generates social media content for Downtown social media accounts; responds to social media questions and concerns.
  • Creates content for, updates and monitors DowntownKitchener.ca website and other digital platforms.
  • Plans and develops downtown programming with a focus on impacting the economic and social vitality of the Downtown.
  • Facilitates City hosted Downtown events designed to support and engage targeted businesses and community groups.
  • Develops and maintains a use of space program to support EcDev run events, EcDev/partner collaborations, and partner use arrangements. (i.e. arranges space, technical requirements, site plans, marketing support).
  • Provides input on research, analysis, and planning of programs to attract individuals and businesses from desired economic industries.
  • Collects statistics and feedback related to events, impact of marketing initiatives. Reviews information to determine focus of future events, including use of assets, and enabling access to public spaces.
  • Active contributor and participant to broader Downtown Kitchener initiatives, departmental or divisional priorities, and the work of our numerous stakeholders and partners.
Requirements:
  • 3-year degree or diploma in a related field (e.g., Marketing, Advertising, Event Management).
  • 2-4 years of related experience including an on-the-job period of adjustment.
  • Knowledge and proven application of brand development, strategic marketing and communications theory and best practices to create brand strategies, marketing plans and media communications.
  • Knowledge of social media principals and best practices.
  • Leadership and diplomacy skills to support diverse, multi-organizational and multi-stakeholder teams working on complex projects.
  • Ability to design new events, collaborations that support the Downtown Kitchener brand. An ability to leverage events, activation, and programming to further brand, corporate and economic development goals. Communication and human relations skills to work with community groups, community associations, public services, and the media regarding Downtown issues.
  • Skill in the use of a personal computer using software programs such as Microsoft Office and PowerPoint; Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator; and content management platforms for website content.
  • Empathy and understanding for the range of issues, and social complexities that exist in the core.

: Regular hours are Monday – Friday from 8:30am – 4:30pm but the applicant must be available to work a variety of shifts including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
