The Position:
Director, Digital Marketing
Job Summary:
The Director of Digital Marketing develops and executes a strategic and coordinated digital marketing and content strategy for Muhlenberg College. This role manages the Communications and Marketing digital marketing team and provides oversight for the College’s public digital platforms including web, email, and social channels. The Director partners closely with the content team and strategic liaisons within Communications and Marketing and across campus to ensure the coordinated and consistent promotion of content and priorities across digital channels. The Director also develops benchmarks and goals, monitors and communicates channel and campaign analytics, and adjusts tactics and strategies accordingly for maximum impact. The Director is an avid consumer of and follower of trends and developments in the digital marketing space and a highly creative marketing leader capable of developing and deploying digital campaigns to advance the College’s reputational, recruiting, and relationship priorities.
Schedule & Benefits: This is a full-time, year-round position based in Allentown, PA with partial remote work available. Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work with the VP to develop and deploy a creative, data-driven digital marketing strategy for all College public-facing applications and marketing technologies. This includes setting and executing strategy for all College web properties, mass-email platforms, social media channels, and digital marketing platforms.
- Manage College digital marketing team. Hire, train, and develop digital staff.
- Partner closely with Admissions and Advancement to ensure the coordinated and strategic development and deployment of effective digital campaigns to support recruiting, engagement and philanthropy goals.
- Ensure all Muhlenberg websites, mass-email campaigns, and social media channels comply with College and legal requirements.
- Stay up to date with the latest trends and changes with Google Analytics, SEO and major search engines.
- Oversee the creation of landing pages, microsites, complex event registrations, and forms as needed.
- Lead redesign process for College sites as needed, including evaluation of site functionality and aesthetics, vendor search and selection, collaboration across the organization on business goals and audience needs, and implementation.
- Collaborate with department leadership to build and manage a rich digital content/editorial calendar that supports and plays an integral role in an organization-wide content plan.
- Assure content advances Muhlenberg College priorities and value proposition.
- Attract a qualified audience to the College’s websites, converts site traffic through calls-to-action, landing pages, and lead-generation content and continues to nurture that audience to drive continued and increased engagement.
- Establish tracking mechanisms, evaluate and report on analytics, and continually refine processes to convert and steward audiences and to identify and execute opportunities to improve the College’s search rank for key terms.
- Manage and improve organic search engine performance and goal-setting based on click-through rates, traffic, and conversions.
- Oversee the creation of event and website templates and other resources to promote programs and initiatives on behalf of the College as well as documenting, promoting, and training staff partners on policies, best practices, and web page edits as needed.
- Partner with OIT to establish and implement user-support processes and guidelines.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
While no one person may possess all the qualifications listed below, the ideal candidate will have many of the following professional experiences and characteristics:
Qualifications:
- BA/BS in a related field and a minimum of five years of web strategy and management experience, ideally at institutions of higher education or non-profits.
- Demonstrated success in growing audience base by providing regular, helpful content aligned with their needs, values, and interests.
- A dual-minded approach that demonstrates a high level of creativity and attention to detail including highly creative with excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as strong analytical skills and experience with reporting and data analysis that demonstrate the ability to be process-driven and rely on data to make decisions.
- Understanding of AP/Chicago writing styles.
- Experience in and understanding of optimizing content management tools for user experience.
- Experience establishing and maintaining system documentation, training materials and user training.
- The desire to work in a collaborative, team environment. The ability to communicate efficiently with various College partners to identify important themes and messages.
- Knowledge of CAN-SPAM, GDPR, ADA compliance, and other current and emerging marketing laws.
- Basic HTML, CSS, and responsive design knowledge.
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite.
- Understanding of basic design concepts and how they work on digital platforms (color, typography, layout, resolution, format, and more) and ability to articulate design vision to experts.

- Experience hiring and managing contract workers and vendors.
- Experience using project management tools.
- Ability to clearly and compellingly build relationships, in both individual and group settings.
