DELTA’s role within the Office of the Provost is to advance the integration and support of learning technologies in NC State’s academic programs and courses, both on campus and at a distance. DELTA supports distance-based credit programs and courses for the university and provides enterprise academic technology and instructional support services for all modes of course delivery. Working with NC State instructors and partners, DELTA leads the way in designing, creating, implementing, and supporting extraordinary digital learning experiences for our community of learners. NC State Continuing and Lifelong Education is a key strategic leader, catalyst and partner in the development and delivery of cutting-edge, market-driven continuing and lifelong education programs and services that benefit individuals, organizations and communities throughout North Carolina and beyond. The division serves as a hub of activity offering continuing and lifelong learning opportunities in face-to-face, online and hybrid modalities, utilizing professional meeting facilities for small to large groups, and providing technical assistance as well as outreach and engagement to a variety of organizations, agencies and communities.

Both DELTA and NCSCaLE reside within the Office of Instructional Programs (OIP). In February 2023 the two divisions entered into a shared services marketing agreement and merged their marketing and communications personnel into one team. The DELTA Marketing and Communications (MarComm) Department assumed leadership for the merged team.

This position reports to the Director of Marketing and the work effort is split 50/50 between DELTA and NCSCaLE.

Essential Job DutiesThe Digital Marketing Manager works with the Director of Marketing to develop digital marketing strategies for NCSCaLE, DELTA and NC State Online that increase awareness, create interest, and generate leads that turn into applications or registrations for select academic and continuing education programs. This position contributes to the strategic direction by assessing needs and making relevant, original and impactful recommendations while keeping team projects and deliverables on task through project-management best practices.

The Digital Marketing Manager leads the execution of the strategies and manages an array of digital platforms, with a heavy focus on marketing automation and search engine optimization (SEO).

The Digital Marketing Manager works to align content delivery and platform across the organization to maximize reach and conversions, collaborating and working closely with design, web development and content staff, along with an external advertising agency, in creating comprehensive, branded student journeys and marketing campaigns. In addition to collaborating with other members of the MarComm team, this position will develop and maintain relationships with other departments in DELTA and NCSCaLE (such as the Online and Distance Education team and Office of Professional Development), and across campus (such as the Graduate School, Office of Information Technology (OIT) and University Communications and Marketing).

The Digital Marketing Manager will play a significant role in upcoming website and marketing automation projects. For NCSCaLE, this position will be involved with creating and monitoring analytics for conference websites and a complete overhaul of the division’s website. Additionally, this position will lead the implementation and use of MailChimp as a temporary marketing automation tool for approximately 2 years and then lead the transition to a permanent solution that includes a CRM and marketing automation tool.

Essential job duties include:

  • Lead the strategy and management of DELTA and NCSCaLE’s digital presence, including websites, social media channels and marketing automation developing short- and long-term optimization recommendations, pushing toward continuous improvement using data-informed strategies.
  • Manage the implementation and development of marketing automation tools and platforms for NCSCaLE, with a focus on creating student journeys, email nurturing campaigns and other activities that are engaging and lead to application submission or program registration.
  • Create and implement overall web and marketing automation strategies that focus on engagement, lead generation and registrations or application submissions. Collaborate with the Senior Multimedia Web Designer, Web Developer and Content Strategist to develop and implement these strategies.
  • Manage SEO efforts to increase organic website traffic and improve customer engagement. Optimize web content for conversions and to increase organic traffic.
  • Lead the management and analysis of Google Analytics (GA4) and Google Tag Manager (GTM) ensuring accurate data collection and tracking and turning data into actionable insights. Communicate insights and performance metrics to stakeholders regularly. Coordinate and communicate with OIT, design and web development teams when needed. Assist teams outside MarComm with their implementation of Google Analytics, including defining appropriate metrics and reports.
  • Create, develop and manage a UTM program, including strategy, documentation and data analytics. Ensure accurate tracking and attribution of marketing efforts.
  • Identify different stages of the student journey and determine journey bottlenecks to improve engagement and conversions.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of marketing campaigns, organize retrospectives, present key takeaways and make recommendations for future campaigns.
  • Recruit and retain staff and provide supervision for full-time staff including the Digital Marketing Specialist (anticipated hire early 2024), temporary staff, student interns, vendors, and collaborating teams as it pertains to NCSCaLE and DELTA’s digital marketing strategies, tools and platforms.
  • Stay current on digital marketing, marketing automation and SEO trends.Provide suggestions based on research in order to keep the department abreast of these new trends.

  • Minimum Education and ExperienceBachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Other Required Qualifications
  • Expertise in SEO, SEM, UTM codes, Google Analytics (GA4), Google Tag Manager (GTM), and Google Ads to track goals, metrics, conversions and generate reports.
  • Familiar with enterprise SEO tools (such as Conductor, SEMRush, Moz, Buzzstream).
  • Expertise with marketing automation and CRM tools (preferably MailChimp, Marketing Cloud, Salesforce and Slate).
  • Expertise in creating, implementing and managing email marketing campaigns, lead generation and nurturing.
  • Experience developing, maintaining, cleaning, managing and importing leads and contacts.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of customer service demonstrated through actively listening, taking ownership and resolving concerns or problems as appropriate.
  • Ability to manage client expectations and interact with a wide range of constituencies with varying degrees of technical knowledge and digital marketing experience.
  • Demonstrated skill in creating strategic marketing plans, developing project timelines, writing marketing briefs, collaborating creative and content teams, tracking multiple projects and pushing forward to meet project goals and deadlines.
  • Experience in thinking strategically, problem-solving, decision-making, executing effectively and efficiently. Comfortable with juggling changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Evidence of creativity, innovation and vision as it pertains to digital marketing strategies.
  • Knack for translating insights into execution.
  • Supervisory experience with full-time, temporary or student positions.

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Well-versed in using content management systems (preferably WordPress) and social media management tools (preferably Hootsuite).
  • Certification in Google Analytics, SEO, Salesforce products or other technical tools
