Job description: We are seeking a highly motivated and technically skilled Data Engineer to join our dynamic team within one of Australia’s leading higher education institutions. Based in Parramatta & WFH, you will play a key role in designing, building, and maintaining robust data infrastructure to support analytics, reporting, and strategic decision-making across the university.
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects in the higher education sector—empowering researchers, administrators, and students through data-driven insights.Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain scalable data pipelines and ETL processes.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to gather data requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
• Ensure data quality, integrity, and security across a diverse range of systems and sources.
• Develop and maintain data models, data marts, and data warehouses.
• Support data governance initiatives and contribute to best practices in data management.
• Partner with data analysts, scientists, and IT teams to improve data accessibility and usability.

About YouYou’ll be a data engineering professional who thrives in a collaborative, mission-driven environment. You have strong technical expertise and a passion for creating innovative data solutions that support learning, teaching, and research excellence.Essential Criteria:

• Tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Proven experience in data engineering, data warehousing, or similar roles.
• Proficiency in SQL, Python, and data pipeline tools (e.g., Apache Airflow, DBT).
• Experience with cloud data platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, or GCP).
• Strong understanding of data governance, privacy, and security standards.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

Desirable:

• Experience in the higher education or public sector.
• Familiarity with tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar analytics platforms.
• Knowledge of APIs and integrating data across enterprise systems (e.g., CRM, ERP).
